Working for Newlands Adventure Centre & Keswick Climbing Wall offers you fantastic opportunities to develop your own personal skills!
We can give you the experience and knowledge of the great outdoors like no others!
We are looking for talented and qualified Instructors to work between both centres who have the experience of working with school children but are mature enough to adapt to a more varied client base.
We need instructors that wish to develop personally and who are always ready to learn that little bit more.
How does my day look?
Once you've got up and had your morning Coffee, Instructors will be running two half day activity's sessions per day when we have Groups staying on Multi Activity holidays, these include:
• Ghyll Scrambling
• Kayaking
• Canoeing
• Paddleboarding
• Outdoor or Indoor Rock Climbing
• High Ropes
• Archery/Bushcraft
• Mountain Walks
• Team Building Exercises
In addition, you can expect a top quality Full English Breakfast, Cereal and toast, Filling Hot Lunch and an Evening Meal after work. As you can see, you will not go hungry on our watch!
Also, you can expect to work an average of:
• One evening activity sessions per week
• Two-bar duties per month when you remain on site and act as bar staff and emergency contact for group leaders between 9.00pm & 11.30pm
• These roles are included in your monthly hours calculated over a 17-week reference period.
Activity days are highly structured as programmes must run on time; however, you must also be adaptable to changes in our programmes.
Instructors are not required to supervise the groups outside activity times, during meals or at bedtime.
You will also instruct at Keswick Climbing Wall; this is a great opportunity for you to learn or enhance your climbing knowledge and skills.
At Keswick Climbing Wall we don't just offer indoor climbing sessions...
We also offer all the same activities Newlands offers and more! You will have 3hrs with our thrill-seeking customers to give them memories they will never forget in the Great Outdoors!
Although Instructing occupies the majority your time It must be stressed that a Newlands Instructor does more than just instruct. On non-activity days there will be equipment checks to complete and centre grounds maintenance at both sites, we have a high standard of cleanliness across our company and want to maintain that throughout the whole season.
On changeover days everyone gets involved in assisting our General Assistants in preparing the Centre for the arrival of the next group at Newlands.
An instructor will work a five-day week with two days off which may not fall on the same days, each week No two days are the same at Newlands Adventure Centre and Keswick Climbing Wall leading to a varied, exciting and enjoyable work life!
Personal Development opportunities:
- Permanent highly qualified senior staff & contacts which can assess NGB awards on & off site, giving opportunities to gain further qualifications.
- Our staff are required to successfully complete an intense 2-week trial and training period at the start of the season & staff are monitored and receive monthly feedback throughout their employment.
- Senior Staff are always available to give advice on how to move up the career ladder.

Requirements
Personality and experience count for a lot, however licensing and current good practise demand that staff are qualified in what they instruct.
You will ideally hold at least 1 of the following NGB’s:
- Paddlesports Leader, Paddlesports Touring Leader, UKCC Level 2 Coach.
- Rock Climbing Instructor
- Mountain Leader
Applications from candidates with no NGB but training towards a listed NGB will be considered and remuneration if successful would be adjusted accordingly.
Also required:
- Driving License
- Current 16 hour First Aid Certificate
- Two references.
- DBS Enhanced Disclosure
Salary of £1830 P/M, (Tracks and adjusts with living wage increase)
